Mobile phone mast emissions across Jersey – including outputs from newly installed 5G sites – remain comfortably within internationally approved safety thresholds, according to the latest annual review.

The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) said its independent assessment of the island’s mast network showed that all measured emissions were “well within” globally recognised limits.

This year’s audit covered 20 locations across Jersey, among them 13 recently deployed 5G masts. Regulators said the findings marked another consecutive year in which results confirmed “consistently safe emissions”.

Robin Hogge, the JCRA’s technical case officer, noted that testing 5G infrastructure for the first time was “an important milestone, demonstrating that the newest generation of mobile technology adheres to established safety standards”.

Mr Hogge said the audit played a key role in showing the island’s commitment to a safe and properly regulated telecoms sector.

With further expansion of 5G services expected in 2026, the authority said it would broaden the scope of its testing programme to reflect the growing network.
