Condor’s parent company drops legal fight over ferry contract

Brittany Ferries Won’t Pursue Further Legal Action Over Jersey Ferry Contract

Brittany Ferries, the parent company of Condor, will not seek further legal action against the Jersey government’s decision to award its ferry contract to DFDS, according to chairman Jean-Marc Roué.

The company’s attempt to force a judicial review was dismissed last month by the Court of Appeal, which ruled there was no realistic prospect of success. The dispute stemmed from a collapsed pan-island selection process, after Guernsey chose Brittany Ferries while Jersey opted for DFDS, awarding a 20-year contract starting 28 March.

Roué stated that Brittany Ferries is still seeking details on the initial tender results but has no plans for further court action. He also indicated that some vessels currently operating on the Jersey route might be sold.

Despite financial scrutiny during the bidding process, Roué insisted Condor remained profitable, though it took on Covid-related debt.

Meanwhile, DFDS said it is focused on preparing services and has opened bookings for the Jersey-St-Malo route.
