Jersey residents invited to share experiences in disability survey

The Government of Jersey is encouraging islanders to take part in a new survey designed to better understand the experiences of people living with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

The Living in Jersey Survey aims to build a clearer picture of daily life on the island, comparing the experiences of disabled residents and those with ongoing health conditions with those of the wider population.

Social Security Minister Senator Elaine Millar said the findings would help shape future policies and services, urging as many people as possible to participate.

"This is an important opportunity for islanders to tell us about their experiences of living in Jersey," she said. "We want to understand where progress has been made, where challenges remain, and what more can be done to make Jersey an inclusive and accessible island for everyone."

The government said the research comes almost a decade after Jersey's first major study into the lived experiences of disabled people. Since then, it said there have been significant changes in policy, legislation, public awareness and the delivery of services, alongside the implementation of the island's Disability Strategy.

Officials are particularly keen to hear from people with disabilities and long-term health conditions, saying their feedback will play a key role in identifying priorities for the future.

The survey is open until 18 September and can be completed online, by telephone, on paper or through a face-to-face interview.
