Butterfly Café to Close as Charity Refocuses on Core Support Services
A Jersey-based support organisation for survivors of abuse has announced it will be closing its community café to concentrate on delivering frontline services.
The Butterfly Café, run by The Butterfly Effect, will serve its final customers on Saturday, 2 August 2025, as the charity shifts its focus toward those in urgent need of support across the island.
Since launching in 2023, The Butterfly Effect has supported more than 900 islanders, including survivors of abuse, children in care, and care leavers. However, with demand rising and resources stretched, the team has made the decision to streamline its operations.
“The café has played a valuable role in raising awareness and building community,” a spokesperson said. “But as need continues to grow, we must prioritise our mission to provide critical, trauma-informed support — which is often difficult to access elsewhere.”
Originally opened two years ago, the café offered a safe, inclusive space for survivors to rebuild confidence, earn an income, and reconnect with the community. It also hosted support groups and advocacy services for young people in care.
While the closure marks a significant change, the team isn’t ruling out reopening a public space in the future.
“We are deeply grateful to all of our customers and the incredible team who helped make the café what it was. This has been a difficult decision — but we believe it’s the right one.”
The Butterfly Effect continues to work closely with local agencies, providing specialist, trauma-informed care delivered by professionals — many of whom bring lived experience to their roles.
The organisation is currently awaiting confirmation of its charitable status, which it hopes will unlock new opportunities for funding and service delivery.
