More than 60 properties in Grouville were left without mains water after a pipe burst overnight, according to Jersey Water.

The leak occurred on La Grande Route des Sablons, where temporary traffic lights have been installed while repair work is carried out.

Jersey Water said supplies had already been restored to around 50 affected properties by Tuesday morning, with engineers continuing work to reconnect the remaining homes as quickly and safely as possible.

The company apologised for the disruption and thanked islanders for their patience during the repairs.

Martin Skyba, Jersey Water’s head of network, said the burst was likely linked to the recent hot weather and increased pressure on the system.

“The extremely dry ground conditions mean the soil loses moisture, which can cause slight movement in the pipes and lead to cracks,” he explained.

“Thankfully, bursts like this are relatively uncommon in Jersey, but our priority is to restore supplies as quickly as possible.”

Mr Skyba said repairs typically take several hours to complete.

“In most cases we can finish the excavation and repair work within three to four hours,” he said. “Anyone needing access to water can speak to our teams on site or contact us directly.”
