Thirty-five roles at JT in Jersey were made redundant as part of a wider company transformation, which includes £85 million in security upgrades, the States Assembly heard.
JT, the government-owned telecoms provider formerly known as Jersey Telecom, had previously not disclosed job loss figures. However, in response to a written question from Deputy Jonathan Renouf, Treasury Minister Elaine Millar revealed that 69 roles had been cut across JT Group Limited since 1 January 2024, with 35 based in Jersey.
Millar said the redundancies were part of a broader effort to restructure JT’s operations to deliver more secure and reliable networks. The transformation includes the rollout of a new Ericsson network and a programme of efficiency measures, both approved by the States.
She added that no employees had been asked to sign non-disclosure agreements and confirmed there are no further redundancy plans at present.
