St Peter’s Main Road to Close in Phases for Major Drainage Upgrades

St Peter’s Main Road will undergo staged closures over the next six months to allow for essential upgrades to the local drainage network, the Government of Jersey has announced.

Work on the sewer network in St Peter’s Village began in July and is expected to continue until 2026. Full road closures will start on 13 October, as existing pipes are buried beneath the centreline of the roads.

Officials said the closures will be carried out in short sections to “minimise disruption” for residents and businesses.

With growing demand on the island’s infrastructure, including new housing developments and heavier rainfall, the government said the drainage system must “evolve to cope” with current and future needs.

The sewer network in St Peter’s Village is already operating at full capacity. The planned upgrades aim to ensure the system can handle both current demands and future growth.

Construction of a strategic underground storage tank began in September and is scheduled to continue until early 2027. The tank will temporarily store combined sewer flow during heavy rainfall, helping to prevent surface flooding and pollution incidents.

A colour-coded map released by the government outlines each phase of the project, showing how the works will progress throughout the village.
