New Minibus Parking Trial Aims to Improve Accessibility in St Helier

A year-long trial introducing new accessible parking spaces for minibuses has begun in St Helier.

Two of the spaces are located on Dumaresq Street and will be available շուրջ the clock, every day of the week. These are being added alongside existing blue badge parking bays.

A further two spaces have been set up on Beresford Street, close to West’s Centre, and will operate daily between 11:00 and 18:00.

According to the government, the changes were necessary after access restrictions were introduced at the lower end of New Street. Vehicles have been unable to enter that area after 10:00 since King Street was converted into a pedestrian precinct.

The Infrastructure and Environment Department explained that the new locations are more suitable for larger vehicles.

Previously, minibuses using New Street had to turn and exit via Burrard Street, which could be difficult.

As part of the changes, the former parking spaces on New Street will be removed, with signage taken down and road markings covered over in due course.
