The JSPCA Charity Shop is asking islanders for support ahead of 15 months of major roadworks set to begin on St John’s main road.
The animal welfare charity told Channel 103 that the upcoming disruption poses a “huge concern” for the financial future of its Sion-based shop — a key source of income until its current lease expires next year.
Proceeds from the store play a vital role in funding the JSPCA’s work to protect and care for Jersey’s wildlife and stray animals.
Chief Executive Officer Pam Aubert says the impact will be felt across the organisation.
“There’s going to be a lot of concern for many residents and businesses in the area,” she said. “For the JSPCA, the charity shop is a great window for us, and the roadworks will make it harder for people to visit easily. We want to stay optimistic and hope our community continues to support us — we’ll really need that help.”
Pam added that the shop serves more than just a fundraising purpose.
“We have a lot of regulars who come in, and for many, it’s a social connection as much as a shopping experience. These roadworks will likely reduce footfall, which means an impact both financially and socially.”
The shop’s lease is due to end in autumn or winter 2026, and the JSPCA is already exploring potential new locations.
“If anyone knows of a space we could use for a pop-up or a new permanent shop, we’d love to hear from them,” Pam said. “We’re definitely open for the next year and open to new opportunities.”
In the meantime, the charity is urging the public to continue visiting and shopping in Sion.
“Between now and Christmas, we’d love to see as many people as possible through the doors,” Pam said. “We know the roadworks will affect our takings, so every visit really does make a difference.”
