Proposals for a new cycling and wheeled sports area in St Lawrence have been praised by a local sports organisation, which says facilities for riders across Jersey are continuing to improve.
Jersey Cycling has welcomed plans for a pump track at the playing field beside Coronation Park. Pump tracks are continuous looped courses designed for bicycles as well as other wheeled sports such as skateboarding and rollerblading.
The wider redevelopment of the site would also include sand dunes, a nature-based play space and an amphitheatre, using land that was donated to the island by a benefactor.
Karen Bull, vice president of Jersey Cycling, said the plans reflected long-standing requests from families and cycling groups.
She said the organisation had spent several years campaigning for better cycling infrastructure and described the proposal as a significant step forward for the island.
Ms Bull added that the project was particularly meaningful to her as a parent, saying she was delighted her young son would benefit from facilities that many families have felt were missing in Jersey.
Jersey Cycling said the pump track would provide a safe and inclusive environment where people of all ages could build skills, keep active and spend time outdoors. The group added that such facilities are widely seen as boosting confidence, fitness and social interaction across different generations.
