Jersey Airport recognised for progress on carbon reduction

Jersey Airport has received international recognition for its work to improve sustainability and cut carbon emissions.
The airport has been awarded Level 4 transformation status under Airport Carbon Accreditation, a global programme that assesses airports’ carbon management efforts.
Ports of Jersey said the accreditation reflected the airport’s commitment to achieving net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030.
Sophie Alexander, head of sustainability and community at Jersey Airport, described the award as “a huge achievement”, saying it demonstrated “a fundamental shift” in how the airport operates.
The accreditation recognises a range of measures introduced at the airport, including replacing vehicles and equipment with lower-carbon alternatives and converting terminal heating to hydro-treated vegetable oil.
The airport has also introduced a decarbonisation charge for private and business aviation, with the money raised helping to fund future carbon reduction projects.
Other measures include the installation of LED lighting and smart metering to improve energy efficiency.
Ports of Jersey said it would continue investing in low-carbon technologies as it works towards its 2030 emissions target.
