Jersey Cares has announced the appointment of Susie Richardson as its new CEO.
The organisation, which lists its aim as to listen to and amplify the voices and needs of people with care experience, has made the appointment after founding CEO, Carly Glover, announced she would leave the role after seven years.
Ms Richardson has 'a wealth of experience' in working with people from a range of different backgrounds in both voluntary and professional capacities, said Jersey Cares.
It described her as a relentless advocate for openness and transparency.
The group said the new CEO had a background in academic research, worked with thousands of care leavers and children and infants in the care of the state, has a background in senior leadership in prisons and previously managed a supportive provision for mother and babies.
It said this meant she had a "profoundly positive impact on individuals' lives when they are properly involved in and have agency over decisions that affect them, and will continue to advocate for this for our young people in Jersey".
Ms Richardson said: "A big part of my work over the last 24 years in prisons and criminal justice has been to have a voice for those who are locked up, some of whom will never have had a legitimate voice or loyal advocate giving them a voice.
"Having a voice in the world, has come to be one of the things that I value above all else.
"[This] has become especially profound since having had throat surgery leaving me with only one functioning vocal chord and sometimes struggle to 'be heard' in a way that I've not previously experienced."
