Jersey Tops UK in Annual Alcohol Consumption, New Report Finds
Islanders in Jersey are drinking more alcohol each year than the average person in the UK, according to newly released data from Public Health Jersey.
The latest alcohol profile report breaks down consumption habits across different age groups, genders, and social backgrounds. On average, residents in Jersey consumed 10.8 litres of pure alcohol per person over the past year—higher than the UK average of 9.8 litres and significantly above the 8.6-litre average among OECD countries.
While the report highlighted a positive trend of fewer young people consuming alcohol compared to previous years, it also raised concerns over drink-driving incidents.
Alarmingly, the number of road collisions involving alcohol doubled in the past year, jumping from 10 in 2023 to 20 in 2024. Alcohol was a contributing factor in 150 out of 190 total road offences recorded during the period.
The findings suggest a complex picture of alcohol use on the island—one where certain age groups are drinking less, but the overall consumption and its consequences remain a significant public safety concern.
