DFDS to Release Jersey Ferry Timetable by 21 December
DFDS has confirmed that it will release the ferry timetable for Jersey by the end of next week, 21 December. This date also marks the new deadline for finalising a 15-year contract between the Government of Jersey and the Danish ferry operator.
DFDS was officially selected as Jersey’s new ferry operator on 3 December, ahead of rival bidder Brittany Ferries. The new timetable is set to include services from Portsmouth, Poole, and St Malo.
Dedicated Fleet and Future Investments
Initially, DFDS plans to deploy a fleet of four vessels—two for freight and two high-speed passenger ferries—mirroring the current operations of Condor Ferries. The company has also committed to significant investment in its fleet, pledging to deliver three new ferries within the next six years.
In addition, DFDS aims to reduce travel times to the UK and increase the number of sailings during peak periods to enhance convenience for passengers.
Statements from Key Figures
Deputy Kirsten Morel, Jersey’s Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, emphasised that negotiations are progressing smoothly. “Discussions are going well, and we are on track to sign a contract that will provide the best possible services for Islanders,” she said.
Chris Parker, DFDS’s Route Director for Jersey, echoed this optimism. “Everything is underway to get the service up and running. We’re focusing on Jersey to make sure we get it done as quickly as possible,” he said.
The finalised agreement will secure DFDS as the island’s ferry operator until at least 2039.
