Channel Islands Billionaires Hold Steady on 2025 Rich List
The 2025 Sunday Times Rich List has named the wealthiest residents of the Channel Islands, with familiar names dominating the top spots once again.
Whisky magnate Glenn Gordon and family, based in Jersey and owners of Glenfiddich and Drambuie, remain at number one. Their fortune rose by £780 million over the past year, reaching £6.4 billion.
In second place are Chris and Sarah Dawson, founders of retail giant The Range, whose wealth climbed by £100 million to £2.6 billion. The paper dubbed them the "discount king and queen."
Tech investor Simon Nixon, founder of moneysupermarket.com, ranks third with £1.95 billion, after gaining £70 million last year.
Guernsey’s richest couple, Douglas and Dame Mary Perkins of Specsavers, saw their wealth dip by £50 million to £1.5 billion but still placed fourth. Rounding out the top five is Guernsey-based fund manager Steve Lansdown.
The Barclay family, formerly of Brecqhou, did not appear this year amid ongoing financial uncertainty.
Nationally, the UK’s wealthiest remain the Hinduja family, with a fortune exceeding £35 billion. The 2025 edition marks a drop in UK billionaires from 177 in 2022 to 156 — the largest fall in the list’s 37-year history. The combined wealth of those featured is £772.8 billion.
Notable names on the list include Sir Elton John, Sir Lewis Hamilton, Sir James Dyson, and King Charles III. Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recorded the biggest individual drop, losing £6 billion in value.
