Beauticians relocates to new venue after sinkhole forces closure

Beautician Reopens After Sinkhole Forces Relocation

A Jersey beautician has reopened in a new location after a burst water main flooded its previous premises, causing structural damage and forcing its closure.

Pennyfeathers, previously based on Clarendon Road, was one of three businesses evacuated on 18 December after the incident left the building unsafe. Owner Penny Downes described the shock of discovering the damage while treating a client, leading to an emergency evacuation.

The closure during the busy Christmas period resulted in 188 cancelled appointments and significant financial loss. Penny has since relocated her business to a temporary space at the Lido Medical Centre, crediting the support of her husband, customers, and the local community for making the move possible in just 45 days.

Meanwhile, part of Rouge Bouillon remains closed as repairs continue, with the government stating the road may not reopen until Easter. Penny expressed frustration over the lack of support from Jersey Water and the government, saying no one has taken responsibility for the damage.

Jersey Water acknowledged the disruption and stated it is working with authorities and insurers to resolve the situation, while the Government of Jersey said it is monitoring ongoing discussions.
