Antiques Dealer Jailed for Defrauding Family Friend of £100,000

A 67-year-old antiques dealer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after conning a longtime family friend out of £100,000.

Anthony Webster, originally from Coventry, was jailed by Jersey’s Royal Court after pleading guilty earlier this year.

The fraud came to light after Webster stole his victim’s cherished piece of jewellery during a family holiday he had been invited on. Later, he claimed to have found a replacement and convinced her to buy it for £100,000.

However, when the item was examined by an expert, it was revealed to be the original piece he had taken.

Civilian Investigator Faith Shalamon, who worked on the case, highlighted the emotional impact of the crime.

“This case is a stark reminder of how personal and devastating fraud can be, particularly when committed by someone the victim trusted,” she said.

She added that the sentence aims to bring a sense of justice and closure to the victim.
