£250,000 Upgrade Approved for “Unusable” Jersey Park Toilets

Public toilets described as “dirty” and “broken” are set to be refurbished after parishioners approved a £250,000 upgrade at Elephant Park.
The decision was made at a St Brelade Parish Assembly in Jersey, where Constable Mike Jackson said the facilities had become “unusable”.
Parents using the park welcomed the plans, saying the toilets were unhygienic and poorly maintained. Some said they avoided using the facilities altogether, with complaints ranging from broken flushing systems to faulty hand-washing areas.
However, not everyone supported the cost, with some residents arguing £250,000 was excessive for refurbishing an existing toilet block.
The revised proposal is lower than plans first put forward in 2023, with funding to come from the parish’s property reserve. Jackson said if the upgrade had not been approved, the toilets may have been closed and replaced with portable units.
