Health officials in Jersey have apologised after a review found concerns with the diagnosis and treatment of some patients who underwent bone density scans between 2017 and 2022.
Health and Care Jersey said independent specialists examined just over 1,000 patient records. In 20 cases, the care provided following scans fell below expected standards, while around 250 patients have been advised to undergo repeat scans to monitor bone density changes.
Patients in the affected group will be contacted from next month, with additional clinics set up to carry out the re-scans. Officials said anyone who has not been contacted by the end of April, or who had scans after January 2022, is not affected.
Simon West apologised to those impacted, saying the review was launched as soon as potential reporting issues were identified. He added that the current bone density service is reliable and that patient safety remains a top priority.
All recall scans are expected to be completed by the end of May 2026, subject to patient availability.
