A major air and sea search was launched off Jersey after a wingfoil spotted near Seymour Tower raised concerns that a kitesurfer could be missing at sea.

The blue and green wingfoil was seen on Monday, 24 August, prompting the Channel Islands Air Search aircraft to survey the area in challenging, windy conditions.

An RNLI St Catherine’s inshore lifeboat, the Fire Service rescue boat and an Air Search drone team also joined the operation.

The wingfoil was eventually located by the Lion’s Pride on rocks south of Icho Tower, off Jersey’s south-east coast. The Fire Service recovered the equipment.

Jersey Coastguard later confirmed the wingfoil had been lost from the French coast earlier that day.

Checks established that nobody was missing, and the search operation was subsequently stood down.
