Bonfire sparks fire warning as strong winds fuel blaze in Corbiere

Jersey Fire Service has warned islanders against lighting bonfires in windy conditions after a blaze near Corbiere spread rapidly through dry vegetation.
Firefighters were called to the area near a path leading to Jersey Water's desalination plant shortly before 17:00 BST on Monday, following several reports of the fire.
A total of 18 firefighters attended after flames spread from a bonfire in a neighbouring field. Strong winds helped the fire move quickly through the dry vegetation.
Fire Service officials said the island's land remained particularly dry following recent heatwaves, despite rainfall in recent days.
A garden shed was damaged in the incident, while a nearby property came under threat as the flames spread downwind.
Firefighters used four hose jets to surround the blaze and bring it under control. Crews also returned several times during the evening and the following morning to check for remaining hotspots.
The cause of the fire was identified as a bonfire, with the combination of strong winds and dry vegetation contributing to its rapid spread.
The Fire Service urged residents to avoid lighting bonfires when windy conditions could cause flames to spread beyond control.
