Rising Stars Shine at Jersey Young Musician of the Year Final


Jersey’s next generation of musical talent took centre stage at the Jersey Arts Centre on Saturday (1 March), where six outstanding young performers competed in the final of this year’s Jersey Young Musician of the Year.

After a night of exceptional performances, 16-year-old vocalist Savanna Vogt was awarded the top title, impressing the judges with her expressive delivery and technical skill. Alongside the honour, Savanna received a £1,000 prize to support her musical development.


The competition brought together the winners from six instrumental and vocal heats, each performing a carefully chosen programme in front of a live audience and expert panel.


The 2024 finalists were:


  • Emma Mwanga (flute) – Woodwind

  • Summer Watkins (trumpet) – Brass

  • Savanna Vogt (vocal) – Vocal

  • Jason Hoare (piano) – Piano

  • Oliver Hutton (percussion) – Percussion

  • Edward Clark (violin) – Strings

Percussionist Oliver Hutton also took home the Jersey Symphony Orchestra Award, recognising his exceptional potential.

Dr Graham Cox, Principal of Jersey Music Service, congratulated all the performers, highlighting the impressive standard of musicianship: "This year’s finalists showcased an incredible depth of talent, making it a tough decision for our adjudicator."

The prestigious event, now in its 33rd year, is proudly supported by PwC, whose Marketing Director Abigail McDermott praised the dedication of Jersey's young musicians: "Every year, this competition demonstrates the island’s remarkable musical talent and the hard work these young performers put in."


In addition to the main competition, trophies were also awarded to this year’s junior winners:


  • Jack Murphy – Junior Piano

  • Emily Coates Rodriguez – Junior Strings

  • Theo Robson – Junior Brass

  • William de la Haye – Junior Woodwind

  • Prutha Tejpal – Junior Vocal


With such a strong showcase of talent, Jersey’s musical future looks brighter than ever.
