£4.2m St Paul’s Gate transformation completed

A £4.2 million refurbishment of St Paul’s Gate in St Helier has been completed, bringing major improvements to 17 homes next to De Gruchy department store.

The Jersey Homes Trust (JHT) carried out the 12-month project, which included installing a new roof and windows, upgrading bathrooms and improving fire and safety systems. New balconies have also been added to the properties.

The development’s shared areas have been upgraded as part of the project, with improvements to communal spaces, parking and storage facilities.

Residents who were temporarily moved out of their homes during the work are now returning to the refurbished properties.

JHT said the project forms part of a wider programme to modernise and improve its housing stock across the island. Recent work has also been completed at Warren Court in St Lawrence, while an upgrade at Le Coie in Springfield is currently under way.

The housing trust provides around 800 homes for tenants across Jersey, with St Paul’s Gate being the first property it acquired in 1995.

JHT Chair Phil Le Cornu said a refinancing agreement reached in 2024 had strengthened the organisation’s ability to continue investing in its properties.

He said the trust was focused not only on maintaining its homes but also on making them more comfortable, energy efficient and sustainable for current and future residents.

Housing Minister Deputy Malcolm Ferey visited the refurbished flats earlier this month and welcomed the improvements.

He said homes should provide residents with a sense of belonging, comfort and safety, adding that the refurbishment had helped achieve those aims.
