UK Pair Sentenced After Attempt to Smuggle Cocaine into Jersey
Two British women who attempted to smuggle cocaine into Jersey to repay a drug debt have been sentenced by the Royal Court.
Stephanie Dean, 42, and Jaye Henry, 28, travelled to the island in April aboard the Stena Vinga ferry from Portsmouth. Upon arrival, their luggage was inspected by Jersey Customs and Immigration officers, who became suspicious after swab tests returned positive for cocaine. Both women admitted having used the drug the weekend before.
Further investigations led officers to suspect the women were concealing drugs internally. Dean later admitted to carrying a package and produced a condom-wrapped parcel containing 83.74 grams of high-purity cocaine, valued at £21,000 on the street.
During questioning, Dean claimed she believed the package contained cannabis and said she agreed to smuggle it into Jersey to repay a drug debt of approximately £800–£900 to a man in the UK.
Henry was not found to be carrying drugs. She told officers Dean had been offered £2,000 to smuggle the package and that she herself expected payment for accompanying her.
Dean received a prison sentence of two years and six months. Henry was ordered to complete 384 hours of community service.
