This year’s Jersey Swimarathon has raised £72,527.77 so far, with further donations still being counted following another successful event.

A total of 387 teams took part, completing more than 22,500 laps at Les Quennevais Pool across five days of fundraising.

Proceeds from the event will be shared between the Lions Club and 17 local charities focused on promoting diversity and inclusion across the island.

This year’s beneficiaries include Acorn Enterprises, Autism Jersey, Beresford Street Kitchen, Every Child Our Future, Family Nursing and Home Care, Freeda, Happy Heroes, Healing Waves, Jersey Childcare Trust, Jersey Eating Disorder Support, Les Amis, MND Association, Music in Action, Parkinson’s Jersey, Silkworth Group, Variety Club and Wet Wheels.

The Jersey Swimarathon has been a key part of the island’s fundraising calendar since it first began in 1972, bringing together swimmers from schools, sports clubs, charities, businesses, civil service teams and families.

Among those taking part were sisters Angie de Carteret and Pat Hingston, who have participated in every Swimarathon since the event began more than 50 years ago.

Lions President Jane Rueb praised the efforts of everyone involved and welcomed the strong turnout.

“We’re delighted that so many swimmers of all ages took part,” she said. “As always, teams from schools, families and corporate groups told us how much they enjoyed the event, which was clear from the smiles on their faces.”
