Survey Warns Organisations on Data Safety
A new survey has sent a “strong message” to Jersey organisations about the importance of protecting personal information, the Island’s data protection chief has said.
The 2025 It’s All About You survey, run by the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC), found a 34% rise since 2022 in the number of Islanders aware of the Data Protection Law. It also revealed that 90% of people worry about the safety of their personal information, with bank card details, passports, biometric and health data topping concerns.
Information Commissioner Paul Vane said the findings showed Islanders increasingly value control over their personal data. He urged organisations to improve staff training and strengthen data policies, warning that breaches can have “devastating and life-changing consequences.”
“Data protection is a fundamental human right, linked to wellbeing and equality,” he said. “These results should send a very strong message to any organisation handling sensitive information.”
The JOIC said the results would be used to guide its future advice and events.
