States to Vote on Channel Islands Lottery Fund Redistribution
The States Assembly is set to vote on a proposal to reallocate £857,410 in proceeds from the Channel Islands Lottery, with a portion earmarked directly for Jersey Sport.
Since 2020, the funds have been distributed by the Association of Jersey Charities (AJC) and the Jersey Community Foundation (JCF), benefitting a wide range of local organisations, including those in the sporting sector.
However, a new proposition put forward to the Assembly recommends transferring responsibility for sports-related funding to Jersey Sport. The move is intended to streamline the application process for sports organisations and reduce administrative overheads.
According to the proposal, both Jersey Sport and the JCF—currently responsible for distributing some of the sports funding—are in favour of the change.
Under the revised funding model:
50% (£428,705) would go to the AJC, to be used exclusively for registered charities.
30% (£257,223) would be allocated to the JCF, to be divided between arts, culture, and heritage (65–75%) and applied sciences or research (25–35%).
20% (£171,482) would go directly to Jersey Sport to support physical activity and sporting initiatives.
The States are expected to debate and vote on the proposal in the coming weeks.
