Scaffolding Installed on Unstable Rouge Bouillon Building as Road Reopening Plan Progresses
Scaffolding has been put up at Rouge Bouillon as part of a four-phase strategy aimed at reopening the road after Easter.
The property at the corner of Clarendon Road became structurally unstable following the formation of a sinkhole in mid-December.
Jersey Demolition Company, the contractor handling the site at 28 Clarendon Road, has begun installing steel strapping to stabilise the building. Several nearby structures have suffered severe cracks and movement due to the burst water main and the void that developed beneath the road.
Four-Step Plan to Restore Rouge Bouillon
A phased approach was established in early February to ensure the area’s safety before reopening. The first step, installing steel strapping, is now underway.
Step 1: The owner’s contractor secures the building with steel strapping.
Step 2: Structural and geotechnical engineers will assess soil stability beneath the foundations.
Step 3: External structures and boundary walls will be demolished.
Step 4: Once deemed safe, Rouge Bouillon will reopen to traffic.
Traffic Disruptions Continue
Rouge Bouillon remains closed, leading to significant congestion on the St Helier ring road and affecting surrounding routes. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys as work progresses.
