Families in St Aubin are set to enjoy a newly refurbished playground after the popular play area officially reopened following a programme of improvement works.

Infrastructure Minister Deputy Jonathan Renouf performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony just three days after taking up his new ministerial role, marking the completion of the project ahead of the busy summer holiday period.

Speaking at the reopening, Deputy Renouf said the previous playground had fallen into disrepair and was no longer safe for children to use. He described the refurbishment as part of a wider commitment to improving Jersey's public spaces.

"It's a wonderful investment for young people and families across the Island," he said. "This project reflects our ambition to deliver continuous improvements to the public realm. While it may seem like a relatively small scheme, it will make a meaningful difference to the local community."

The redesigned playground was created by play designer Emily Jennings, who said the project focused on making the equipment more inclusive and better suited to children of different ages and abilities.

"It has been really exciting to transform the existing play equipment and introduce bespoke features that are tailored to this community and its surroundings," she said.

Jennings explained that accessibility was central to the design, with dedicated features for babies, toddlers and young children. The lower sections of the structure have been designed for crawlers and pre-walkers, while a low climbing net provides sensory play opportunities and helps children build confidence as they learn to balance and walk across uneven surfaces.

The refurbished play area is now open to the public and ready to welcome families throughout the summer.
