Rain falling across Jersey today has brought an end to a 22-day period without measurable rainfall.
Forecasters are expecting what they describe as a “useful” amount of rain this week, with low cloud moving across the Channel Islands.
The last measurable rainfall was recorded on 15 July, when 15mm fell.
The prolonged hot and dry spell has put pressure on gardens, crops and wildlife, with growers, conservationists and gardeners all waiting for a change in the weather.
Despite the rain, advice to use water carefully remains in place. Demand has risen sharply during the recent heat, as islanders have been watering gardens and filling swimming pools and paddling pools.
Jersey Water has previously said the island can use around 24 million litres of water each day during particularly hot spells.
The weather is expected to remain unsettled for the rest of the week, with a mixture of sunshine and showers forecast.
