Ministers Defend Lido Tender Amid Calls for Community Takeover
Jersey’s Council of Ministers has criticised attempts to overturn a decision on who will run the Havre de Pas Lido, describing the move as “disappointing.”
The government recently awarded the tender to local company First Point, which is set to take over management of the popular bathing pool next year. However, Deputy David Warr, who chairs the Lido’s steering group, has lodged a proposition calling for the site to instead be handed to community organisation Love Our Lido.
Ministers said the tender process was conducted by an independent panel and that previous negotiations with the community group were unsuccessful. They warned that reversing the process would lead to “delay, wasted costs, and stagnation,” and undermine confidence in independent public procedures.
The issue will be debated at the next States sitting, following years of contention over the Lido’s management. Public protests in 2023 highlighted islanders’ desire to protect the site’s future.
First Point said it plans to expand activities at the Lido, including volleyball and community galas, aiming to create “a vibrant, resort-style destination.”
