Emergency crews responded to a significant fire in St Helier on Monday evening after flames and heavy smoke were reported coming from a building in Beresford Street.
The incident began at approximately 8.30pm when emergency services received reports of a fire in premises located above a hair salon. Multiple fire engines and other emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to tackle the blaze and carry out search operations. Witnesses reported seeing several residents being escorted from the property, with at least three people believed to have been evacuated.
As crews worked to contain the fire, police closed surrounding roads and restricted access to parts of the town centre. Traffic was prevented from entering Bath Street from the Phillips Street junction while emergency operations continued.
No injuries had been officially confirmed at the time of publication. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the incident was ongoing late into the evening.
Further updates are expected as emergency services continue their response and investigations progress.
