Jersey Sees Rise in Temporary Accommodation Use, Report Finds

The number of people living in temporary accommodation in Jersey has increased by nearly 100 since the start of 2025, according to a new government-commissioned report.

The Homelessness in Jersey report, which examined data from April to June, found that 282 people were living in temporary housing during that period — up from 188 recorded between January and March.

While overall homelessness rose, the report noted a slight decrease in youth homelessness. The number of homeless individuals under the age of 26 fell from 56 to 52 between the two quarters.

It also found that eight people were sleeping rough or had no accommodation at all, down from 22 in the first quarter.

The leading causes of homelessness remained unchanged across both reports: domestic abuse was identified as the main factor among women, while substance use was most common among men. Other contributing issues included relationship breakdowns, evictions, and financial difficulties.

Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Farnham reaffirmed his commitment to tackling homelessness, saying:

“Everyone in Jersey should have a safe and secure place to call home, and these reports are designed to provide a clearer picture of where help is needed. The strength of our island lies in our compassion, and we will continue working to ensure that every person in Jersey has the foundation of a secure home and the dignity it brings.”
