New Developmental Reviews Introduced for Three-Year-Olds in Jersey
Jersey has launched a new developmental review program for three-year-olds, marking a first for the island. Families participating in the review will receive a "Me at Three" box containing books and child development advice.
Led by the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department (CYPES) in partnership with Family Nursing and Home Care (FNHC), the reviews will assess children's physical, speech, language, social, and emotional development before they start school.
Head of Early Years Nicola Mulliner called the initiative a "unique offer" that takes a holistic approach involving parents, teachers, and health workers. Michelle Cumming from FNHC emphasised the importance of preparing both children and schools for the transition to Reception class.
The reviews, recommended by the Early Years Policy Development Board in 2021, will fill a gap in early childhood assessments and begin next year, coordinated by FNHC and schools.
