Jersey Police have released a local version of the Little Book of Big Scams to help residents protect themselves from fraud. Published in conjunction with Fraud Awareness Week, the booklet outlines common scams and provides practical advice to help people avoid falling victim.
The police emphasised that individuals don’t need to be “computer experts” to stay safe. “Adopting a few good online and telephone habits can significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim, making you less vulnerable and enabling you to use the internet safely,” they said.
According to the force, many of the scams they investigate could be prevented with minor changes in behavior. The guide covers a range of fraudulent activities, including online scams, telephone fraud, and door-to-door cons, offering straightforward tips to reduce risk.
Based on a publication by the Metropolitan Police, the Jersey edition also includes contact details for local organisations that provide training on scam prevention and support services for victims.
