A long-vacant property in St Saviour that includes a disused shop could be converted into a three-bedroom home under new plans submitted to the Planning Department.
The building at 12 Rosemount Cottages on James Road was originally a single dwelling but now contains a ground-floor retail unit with a shop and storage space, along with a studio-style living area. A one-bedroom flat occupies the first floor, although the applicant says none of the units have been occupied for some time.
The proposal seeks permission to change the use of the building and reconfigure its interior, creating a three-bedroom home with a kitchen, dining and living area, and a master bedroom with ensuite on the ground floor.
The applicants argue the property has been subject to “unsympathetic alterations” and is currently in a “substandard” condition, including facilities described as “not fit for purpose”. They say the redevelopment would restore it to a single, high-quality dwelling with improved layout, light and functionality.
The planning submission describes the scheme as a better use of a long-unused unit, with no adverse impact on the surrounding area.
The application is classed as ‘Major’ and is open for public comment until 14 July.
