Plans for 37 new homes on St Ouen fields submitted

Plans Submitted for 37 New Homes in St Ouen

A proposal to build 37 new homes on re-zoned fields in St Ouen has been submitted. The development, near the Jersey Hospice shop, would include affordable housing for first-time buyers and rental homes for parishioners over 55. Currently, about 70 over-55s are on the waiting list for rental accommodation in the parish.

Previously, plans to build homes for older residents at Highmarsh House fell through after a private developer outbid the parish.

Housing Minister Deputy Sam Mezec said providing more homes for older people could benefit the wider population by freeing up larger homes for families. "If we can provide attractive alternatives, some people might choose to downsize, creating a win-win situation," he said.

Concerns have been raised about sewage network capacity, but Infrastructure Minister Constable Andy Jehan said an underground storage tank could support further development in rural parishes. Planning permission is being sought for a tank in St Peter to help manage wastewater from St Peter, St Ouen, and St Mary.
