Engine Issue Forces Emergency Landing for Birmingham to Jersey Flight
A Blue Islands passenger plane made an emergency landing shortly after taking off from Birmingham on Sunday due to a reported engine issue.
The aircraft, en route to Jersey with around 70 seats, returned safely to Birmingham Airport after the crew received a cockpit alert indicating a technical problem. The crew shut down one of the engines as a precaution and followed standard safety procedures.
Passengers disembarked normally, despite strong winds, and were later provided with meals and accommodation. A Blue Islands spokesperson emphasised that passenger safety remains the airline’s top priority, adding that the engine did not fail in an uncontrolled way.
Some passengers described the flight as “rocky” and “scary.” Leanne Rowe, traveling with her children, said hearing about the engine problem mid-flight was unsettling. Another passenger, Lauren York, said landing was “very worrying,” while Sarah Brown praised the pilot for a smooth emergency return.
No investigation has been launched by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch following a review of the incident.
