Jersey Cheshire Home has officially opened a newly redeveloped garden space, made possible through donations and community fundraising efforts totaling more than £90,000.
The transformed outdoor area now offers a fully accessible, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, families, and visitors. Features include shaded seating areas with new furniture, a heated and lit pergola for year-round use, and raised planters designed to encourage residents to enjoy gardening and outdoor activities.
The project marks the culmination of a three-year fundraising campaign supported by events such as charity treks and the 2024 Summer Ball.
Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd — who serves as Patron of Jersey Cheshire Home — officially opened the new garden on 7 October.
Chief Executive Donna Abel said the development represents far more than an aesthetic upgrade. “It’s about the spaces that bring people together,” she said. “This project has doubled the outdoor space available for residents and their families to enjoy. The new garden is not just beautiful — it’s therapeutic.”
Abel thanked supporters for their generosity, noting that the achievement was made possible through “four years of tireless fundraising, from evening galas and sponsored treks to the kindness of islanders who believed in our vision.”
Based in St Helier, Jersey Cheshire Home remains the island’s only residential facility dedicated solely to caring for adults with disabilities.
