Jersey residents had the opportunity to savor a variety of soups donated by 40 chefs from local hotels, restaurants, and organisations, all to support a charitable cause.
The annual Shelter Trust Soup Kitchen took place on Tuesday at the Royal Square in St Helier. Organisers anticipated serving over 3,000 cups of soup alongside 3,000 chunks of bread during the four-hour event.
Attendees were encouraged to contribute a minimum donation of £3, with all proceeds directed to the Shelter Trust, an organisation providing housing and support for Jersey's homeless population.
Volunteer Richard Robins shared that this year’s event was expected to mark a significant milestone: surpassing a combined total of £250,000 raised since the first soup kitchen in 1998.
Highlighting the diverse selection of soups, Mr. Robins said, “There’s something for everyone. You’ve got simple options like celery soup, generously donated by the Parish of Trinity, and more luxurious choices like parsnip, honey, and truffle soup from Bohemia Bar & Restaurant.”
He also praised the efforts behind the event, saying, “We have a dedicated team of about a dozen people who started planning back in October, but after 26 years, we’ve got the process down. Today, we have 90 volunteers serving soup, and we’re incredibly thankful for everyone who contributed.”
