Jersey Police to Focus on AI and Digital Innovations Amid Budget Constraints
The States of Jersey Police (SOJP) have outlined their key priorities for 2025-2028, emphasising digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and manage costs.
The latest policing plan, developed in partnership with the Jersey Police Authority, sets out five main objectives: public safety, problem-solving policing, strengthening culture within the force, crime prevention, and ensuring value for money.
With a static budget of around £30 million per year, SOJP aims to maximise resources by embracing technology. Chief of Police Robin Smith highlighted the need to drive out waste while adapting to economic challenges. AI solutions, including transcription and translation services, will play a growing role, alongside enhancements to the force’s website for improved online self-service.
To meet financial targets, SOJP will cut 4.7 full-time positions over the next two years and scale back planned investment in digital forensics. Despite financial limitations, the force remains committed to maintaining Jersey as a safe and secure place.
