The States of Jersey Police will join forces with community and emergency service partners on Friday 22 May for a major beach safety awareness event as part of the Island’s wider summer safety campaign.
Organised by the Police Community Safety Team (PCST), the initiative falls under the Building a Safer Community (BASC) programme, which brings together government departments, emergency responders and local organisations to encourage public safety and reduce harm across Jersey.
Throughout the day, officers and partner agencies will speak with Islanders and visitors at coastal hotspots to promote practical beach safety advice and responsible behaviour during the busy summer season.
The campaign is being delivered alongside organisations including the Jersey Youth Service, Jersey Sport, the Honorary Police and emergency service partners, with support from the Channel Islands Co-op.
Safety messages being promoted include calling 999 in beach emergencies, choosing lifeguarded beaches, disposing of rubbish responsibly, protecting against the sun and ensuring barbecues are never left unattended.
As part of the initiative, the States of Jersey Police will also carry out high-visibility patrols and engagement activities across several popular beach areas.

Between 1pm and 3pm, PCST officers will distribute campaign posters and speak with businesses and members of the public at locations including La Frégate, Havre des Pas, St Brelade’s Bay, Grouville’s Long Beach, St Aubin’s Bay, Bel Royal, Le Braye and St Ouen’s Bay.
Additional foot patrols will take place from 4pm to 6pm in St Brelade’s Bay and Winston Churchill Park.
The day’s programme will conclude with youth engagement activities near the Watersplash on Five Mile Road from 6pm. Officers will work alongside Jersey Sport and the Jersey Youth Service to provide sports activities and engage with young people attending the area ahead of the U18 Y Energy disco event later that evening. Honorary Police from St Peter and St Ouen will also patrol the area.
PC Henry Woolley from the Police Community Safety Team said the initiative aims to ensure everyone can enjoy Jersey’s coastline safely during the busy summer period.
“With fine weather expected over the Bank Holiday weekend, we’re anticipating high numbers at our fantastic beaches,” he said. “We want everyone to enjoy themselves, but also to take a few simple precautions. By choosing lifeguarded beaches, keeping an eye on the tide and acting responsibly, we can all enjoy a safe and pleasant summer by the sea.”
