Jersey could be set for one of its hottest May days on record as soaring temperatures are forecast for the upcoming bank holiday weekend.

Forecasters say the Island may see temperatures climb as high as 30°C on Sunday, with warm sunshine expected to continue into Monday’s bank holiday.

If temperatures reach the predicted highs, it could challenge Jersey’s warmest May temperature ever recorded and mark an unusually early spell of summer heat for the Channel Islands.

The hot conditions are expected to draw large crowds to beaches, cafés and coastal attractions across Jersey, with islanders and visitors preparing to make the most of the long weekend.

The warm spell follows a largely dry and settled week, with high pressure building across the region and bringing clear skies and light winds.

Health officials are reminding people to stay safe in the heat by drinking plenty of water, wearing sunscreen and avoiding prolonged exposure during the hottest part of the day.

Roads and beaches are also likely to be busier than usual throughout the weekend as families take advantage of the bank holiday break.

The sunny conditions are forecast to continue into Monday before temperatures gradually ease early next week.

While official records will only be confirmed after the weekend, weather watchers will be keeping a close eye on whether Jersey can surpass previous May temperature records.
