After a miserable few months of relentless rain and disruption, islanders finally enjoyed a lovely day as forecasters promised Jersey’s first run of dry, “glorious” weather of 2026.
According to Jersey Met, sunshine is set to continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching a balmy 15C (59F) — the warmest conditions recorded so far this year.
The fine spell got off to a striking start at dawn. “Just before sunrise this morning I could clearly see a sun pillar, a shaft of light you occasionally see above the sun, which really set the tone for the day,” said John Searson, the forecaster’s principal meteorological officer.
He added that the pleasant conditions would continue into Wednesday, bringing “a good deal of sunshine” for the island of Jersey.
However, the reprieve will be short-lived. An approaching cold front is expected to bring rain late Thursday into Friday, signalling a return to more unsettled weather.
The bright spell marks a sharp contrast to the rest of February, which has been marked by flash flooding, a landslip and travel disruption during the school half-term period. Earlier this week, forecasters said the month is on course to become the wettest February on record.
