Ports of Jersey has confirmed that a significant refurbishment of the airport’s Departures Lounge will begin “very soon,” marking the first major upgrade to the space in three decades.
After months of consultation with airlines, partners, and community groups, Ports has finalised plans to modernise the ageing hall, which officials say is in need of “substantial investment.”
The transformation will include the creation of a mezzanine level, new dining and bar options, a dedicated Genuine Jersey retail outlet, and a purpose-built play area for children.
Chief Executive Matt Thomas says the redesign has been shaped with passengers’ needs firmly in mind.
“We’re bringing in some fantastic artwork in collaboration with ArtHouse Jersey,” he said. “We’re also working with Brighter Futures to develop a new kids’ play zone. It’s going to be a major revamp, and we think islanders will really enjoy the result.”
Thomas added that the upgraded lounge will highlight Jersey’s distinct identity.
“Having worked in airports around the world, I’ve seen many that look modern but could be anywhere,” he explained. “The best airports give you a sense of place the moment you step inside.
“Our redevelopment will celebrate Jersey—expect features like a Martello Tower-inspired structure, granite elements, and even a few nods to our iconic cows. These are the things our community feels proud of, and we want travellers to recognise them instantly.”
