Traveling with Pets: Key Reminders for Winter Journeys
Pet owners planning to travel are being urged to ensure their documentation is current and to account for potential weather disruptions during the winter months.
The States of Jersey highlighted that ferries are more likely to face cancellations, delays, or schedule changes during rough sea conditions, which could affect those traveling with animals.
If a pet passport or animal health certificate contains incorrect or outdated information, pets may face entry refusal or detention, the States warned.
Essential Checks for Pet Passports and Treatment
Owners are reminded to verify the following details:
Ownership Signature: Passports issued after 29 December 2014 must have the ownership section signed. Earlier versions do not require this.
Microchip Date: The date of microchipping must precede the rabies vaccination, which must also be valid for the duration of the journey.
Tapeworm Treatment: Treatment for tapeworm must be administered at least 24 hours but no more than 120 hours before arrival in Jersey. The corresponding section of the passport must be completed accurately.
By ensuring all documentation and treatments meet these requirements, pet owners can avoid delays and complications during travel.
