The Social Security Minister, Deputy Lyndsay Feltham, has unveiled plans to raise Jersey’s minimum wage to £13.59 per hour from April 2026, up from the current £13.00.

The early announcement is intended to give businesses ample time to prepare for the change ahead of its scheduled introduction next spring.

According to the Government, the updated rate fulfils a key pledge in the Common Strategic Policy: aligning the minimum wage with two-thirds of the Island’s median earnings. Officials say this approach is designed to help wages keep pace with the cost of living and overall economic conditions.

“This uplift is an important milestone in ensuring workers in Jersey receive a fair wage”

Deputy Feltham described the proposal as a significant move toward fairer pay. “This uplift is an important milestone in ensuring workers in Jersey receive a fair wage,” she said. “It not only meets our commitment to reach two-thirds of median earnings, but also moves us closer to achieving a living wage for everyone.”

She encouraged employers to consider going beyond the statutory minimum by seeking Living Wage accreditation through Caritas Jersey. The Minister also confirmed that the trainee rate will remain at £10.50 next year, to support those entering new professions through apprenticeships or trainee programmes.
