Jersey Golfer Credits Charity for Kickstarting Career
A rising star in Jersey golf has praised a local charity for helping him reach the top of his game.
Josef Hacker, 25, says he is “eternally grateful” to the Harry Vardon Trust, which supported his travel to off-island competitions — a turning point in his career.
“They’ve basically given me the opportunity to take the next step,” said Hacker, who has since won the Hampshire County Championship and gold at the Island Games.
The trust, set up to support young players, has also helped 18-year-old Anabelle Lucas-Villar gain vital experience abroad.
“It’s so costly getting off Jersey to play golf — the support really helps,” she said.
Trustee Darren Attwood said the charity, inspired by Jersey golfing legend Harry Vardon, aims to develop young talent and instill life skills through the sport.
