Four rescued after apartment fire in St Clement

Four people were rescued from a smoke-filled apartment after a fire broke out in a first-floor flat in St Clement last night.

Jersey Fire and Rescue received the call shortly after 10pm and sent three fire engines, 18 firefighters and a duty station commander to the property near Maupertuis Lane.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within approximately ten minutes.

Although the building had been evacuated, four people remained trapped by smoke. Crews used specialist smoke hoods to lead them to safety.

No injuries were reported, although ambulance staff assessed several people at the scene for possible smoke inhalation.

States of Jersey Police and Honorary Police officers also attended to manage traffic and secure the area.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
