Five people have been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving since the beginning of December, States police have confirmed. The arrests were disclosed as part of the force’s ongoing Get Home Safe campaign, which aims to reduce alcohol-related road offences during the festive period.
A police spokesperson said those arrested came from a wide range of backgrounds but had all made the decision to drive after drinking, placing themselves and others at risk.
“Even when there is no collision, drink-driving carries serious consequences,” the spokesperson said. “A conviction can result in the loss of a driving licence, employment and personal freedom.”
With social events increasing in the run-up to Christmas, police urged Islanders to plan their journeys in advance and look out for friends and family.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan echoed the message, encouraging people to consider alternative ways of getting home.
“There are always options available, whether that’s using public transport, taking a taxi or arranging a lift with a friend,” he said. “The consequences of drink-driving can be life-changing, even if no accident occurs.”
Chief of Police Robin Smith said the festive season often led to an increase in social gatherings and stressed the importance of personal responsibility.
“What matters most is that people get home safely,” he said. “That means having a plan in place and choosing not to drink and drive — not simply to avoid enforcement, but because it is the right and responsible thing to do.”
